Racism is a social disease that has been constructed and reconstructed in this county. Many say racial divides were abolished when former President Abraham Lincoln signed his name to the Emancipation Proclamation; others say it ended with the smashing of Jim Crow laws during the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s. However, many will contend that these were only limitations on the legal aspects of racism…it still exists. Blocks – usually set by the white majority – are still attached to many jobs, home and business loans and school registrar lists. They may not be legal anymore, but it still happens. This blog is set up to point out the ways in which race still affects U.S. society. It is important to highlight race because racism is damaging to all, and often, the only way to change is to be informed. The hope here is to smash racism with the hammer called education.
